I'm back again and today I picked up a new truck. 1986 F150 Extended cab 4spd with the 300 straight 6 in it. Only downside is it is 2 wheel drive. It will get me around until I can afford another transmission in the other truck.

Hell if it stops raining I'll get some. Got two new back tires today. I put the new battery terminals on and I'm getting it inspected and all that tomorrow. Once that is done I will be set.

On a side note I found out a coincidence happened. I filled up the front tank today switched to the rear tank and the reason I thought the switch didn't work is both tanks had 1/4 tank in them at the time so the needle never moved. So the only actual problem is the temp gauge not working in it.

If I could get the damn distributor right so it would run again I'd be happy. These old distributors are a pain in the dick. I like carbs but hate distributors. I should break down and get that distributor to electronic ignition. Points, dwells, and rotors are for the birds.

I'm sure that costs too much money. Besides I need the thing running because ordering parts and waiting is never a good thing.

what!
can't get the points set to make it run right?

use a match book to set the points. make sure you have the dist. in correctly and that the wires are on the right cylinders. turn the key! it should start right up and run! unless you did something else to it you aren't telling us about!

I got it running but have a new issue. I now have a new distributor, rotor, and cap and I have new plugs and wires. I still can not get the 1 and 2 cylinder to fire. If i take a test light to the wires at the distributor cap and poke i can put a load on the engine on cylinders 3 thru 6 and kill the motor on the distributor wire itself. Nothing on 1 and 2. I figured the wires were bad went and traded them in for another set didn't fix it and so I traded the 1 and 2 plugs as well. Still did not fix this issue.

Any ideas?

did you make sure that the rotor is making contact with the cap inside? it almost sounds like the cap is not seated. or the rotor is short or the cap is deformed.

No it is all brand new all seated right. The thing was doing this before i replaced the distributor cap and rotor. That is why I replaced them and it didn't work.

is cylinders 1 and 2 facing toward the valve cover? the dist. is seated on the side of the block on a slight angle. if 1 and 2 are at the top near the valve cover you dist. is worn out from laying on it's side the bushings inside wear out dropping the rotor slightly and not making a connection inside with the cap.

So this is something inside the motor? The distributor is brand new. The rotor and cap are brand new as well. The only thing that transfers over from the old to the new is the thing you plug in the bottom of the distributor gear that goes down into the oil pan I guess. It was not bent or anything.

The consensus I have heard from my mechanics is wither a head gasket or burnt valves. I am going to do a compression test on it shortly.
