With any luck, I'll have a new double-din head unit for my truck soon, maybe for Christmas.

Any recommendations on the best way to remove the stock head unit?

Just use a flat head screw driver or better yet a plastic tool that window tinters use to pop off the plastic panel. after you carefully pop it off there will be a wire attached to it where the air bag information is located, press the button and slide that out and you should be able to lay it over to the side without un hooking your air condition controls.

then there should be 4 7 or 8mm screws, after you take those out all you gotta do is unhook the plugins and the antenna.

I have a double din radio in my f150 :D

Thanks... I've done it a half dozen times now while installing various electronics over the past month. Best method I found is to open up the cup holder about half way, then stick your fingers under the plastic panel and lift up. It pops right up, disconnect the wires for the controls and the air bag, and you've got those 4 8mm screws to hold the stereo in. Very easy!

take it to the ceedy part of town. go into a store and leave the doors unlocked. put a note in the truck that says:

please remove my steroe for me. I have no idea how to get it out. oh! if you could don't cut the wiring! thanks the owner.
