need more information.

Sounds like its running without oil. When you dumped the oil, what did the oil look, feel & smell like?

What does the coolant look like? Does it keep getting low, while the oil level gets high?

Does it overheat easily? Have you allowed it to overheat?

Need more information to diagnose.

Could be valve clearances also....but I wouldn't go there unless everything in the world checks good first.

it is full with oil, the drain plug leaks so i keep topping it off with new oil. i dunno where the filter is tho? it may be plugged? its air cooled so there is no coolant. i dunno if it overheats easily, that may be what it is doing when it cuts out and stalls, i havent rn it for more than a few minutes in the yard to try and figure out what is wrong.
it may be something with the valves because the topend was just rebuilt before i got it, and it made a little ticking sound (the same sound but half as loud) and the guy told me it was the lifter(s)

If there isn't a filter, there is a screen. If one or both are clogged, you are running parts of your motor without oil. Seizure and overheating are a few moments away at that point.

Drop the oil, and examine it. Find the oil filter or screen, and clean/replace it.

Old oil, especially oil that's been overheated will not do its job properly and can lead to that ticking sound. The ticking is likely something in the valve system...but not necessarily something wrong.

What is the history of this motor?

the history of this motor, well.... apparently the wheeler was bought new by some kids parents, and they later gave it to him, i dunno how he rode it or what he did with it, but if he treated it how he treated his truck, it cant be good, a few years later, he sold it to a friend of mine, actually my friends uncle, and it didnt make any knocking sounds at that time but it had bad piston rings and smoked. so he rebuilt the entire top-end of the motor, and i bought it from him with a mild ticking sound which he said was a lifter he thought. i rode it on the trail once, and then another friend wanted to swap me a set of wheels and tires for it, so i did. he got it and heard the noise and figured it had a bad connecting rod and asked me if i wanted to buy it back, and i got it back for $50, and the noise now is louder than it has ever been. the oil was completely drained out of it, it holds 1.7 quarts, and thats what i put in it when i got home. i think this idiot ran it without oil because the drain plug leaks and u have to top it off. im going to go pick up some oil now and do an oil change and clean the filter and see if that helps. would u recommend 5w30 or 10?

I dunno. You should put in what is recommended. I've never had a wheeler with a motor that small. I did find online that your motor is filtered for oil....so you should find it, replace it, and cut open your old one to see what you find.

Could be its clogged....and you aren't getting oil to all or part of your motor.

Also, if its been overheated....there could be tons of things wrong inside.

Honestly.....is it even worth re-building or fixing?

it would be worth it if u had the money, everything else is good on it, other than it could use tires

Change the filter, and examine the oil that comes out. Make your decision from there.

You might do a compression check on it.

The top end is totally air cooled? And..its a 4 stroke? Seems odd.

yea, and my 86 honda 200 4 stroke was the same way. im gonna head down hopefully tomorrow and get a new filter, and maybe bring the wheeler and ask one of the mechanics at the shop what there opinion is on it, although they just might tell me it needs to be completely rebuilt by them to try and get money

Honestly....until you get good oil in it, and look at the filter....I wouldn't bother with the mechanic.

Ask them while you're there what type of oil to run.

i had a friend of mine who works at a semi-local honda dealership look at the wheeler, and he told me that the valves need to be adjusted, good easy fix actually.

by the way, im sure your gonna see this, so go fuck yourself..... thats directed at one person, and he knows who he is
