We finally made it home. We went back New Year's eve and paid for the repair $2,320.00. Then we picked up the camper and headed back east to SC for another 2 weeks until we could get paid for some work we did in November, and eventually we drove home. Been home for a week. Truck made it in one piece, but the front end makes a bearing noise still and I think I may have somehow trashed my hublocks, even though they are warn premium locks...and I didn't use 4WD the whole trip.... Something is grinding in my front end and the front wheels won't drive. Honestly....it's probably the ring and pinion...but I don't even want to look right now. The shaft turns....but the wheels don't drive. I don't use 4wd enough to care right now.

Ok well my dually is down again, same situation as before....Broken rear axle. The first time dumb mechanic left it low in diff oil and burned up the outer race/bearing which in turn literally melted the drivers side axle shaft. This also deformed the axle tube.

Then I get another axle assembly, and spent about a year building up the truck to where you currently see it. Since the truck is primarily a show/Sunday driver I dont drive it much. Well this time the drivers side axle shft just "snapped" while making a left turn. A local differential guy has since told me that my internals are actually in great condition but that this axle assembly I had put in is actually damaged and bent. He continues to show me the drivers side tube has an upward bend from center section out....on the driver side...argh!

It`s been down since late October, and I have since been on the hunt for another axle assembly since then......you would be surprised how scarce a 99-04 DUALLY Dana 80, 11.25 ring gear, 4.10 ratio is. Two weeks ago I get word from a salvage yard 7hrs away that has one...I make the drive only to find out it has been mis-tagged and is actually a 4.63 ratio from a 97-down chassis cab

This week I`m driving to Houston(6hr drive) for what seems like I may have found 3 possible axles at three different yards, we`ll see?? lol

On a lighter side, I had some people comment several times that if my truck had been wrecked? they would say beacuse it looked like it would go sideways when looking at it from behind......I would practically tell them off.....guess it was the bent axle housing lol-lol

I`ll keep you guys posted on my updates

one guy posted on another thread about the grinding to check the wheel lock outs. should be two bolts on the knuckle ( one on each knuckle) that sets your steering max. lock to lock
he said if this bolt loosened up it may have moved in and is rubbing the axle when truning and that is when you hear the grinding
