They should have stayed with the 7.3. They keep making all these different versions because they realize all the versions since the 7.3 have sucked.

Actually I believe the real reason is because the government keeps adding more and more emmissions requirements on diesels. You have to change your motor when you are only meeting the government minimums.

sounds awesome if the engine actually works. 390 hp 720 foot pounds torque from factory just imagine what it'll do when the aftermarket gets ahold of it!

It is because of government emissions requirements Tex, and trying to make them more efficient to cater to the general public.

Efficiency is a good thing but you can not make a diesel as emissions free as a gas vehicle because the set up is completely different. Gas is internal combustion and diesel is a compression motor. The government just wants to control everything and they need to mind their own damn business. It does not matter what you do, a diesel is going to smoke period end of story.

They should stop trying to build anew when they had an awesome diesel fifteen years ago. Common rail it and drop it in the trucks. I'm talking about both the 6.6L and 7.8L engines. And Sisu diesel has a kickin' new offering going into the off highway market that has better emissions ratings than most on road engines. Already slated to clear 2012 emissions NOW. And at 370Hp/1120lb/ft it will win power wars. It's kinda big, though, at 8.4L.

Well Jason the newer motors don't blow anything for a little while. My fire chief has an 08 F250 with the diesel in it. He says now it is starting to get a little louder and it is starting to blow smoke.

I said so it's starting to act like a diesel. He said yea pretty much. LOL.

There are huge emissions laws against diesel motors and the automakers have had to comply with them. I agree with Jason and say newer motors blow hardly anything.

I PERSONALLY FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD PUT THE TIME AND MONEY IN TO REFINING THE 7.3 IT WAS THE BEST MOTOR FOR EVERYTHING. DOES ANYONE NO IF THE 6.7 WILL HAVE A DPF OR NOT NOT. TRUE IS THAT IN 03 THE GOV'T PUT SUCH HIGH EMMISIONS LAWS ON DIESELS THAT THERE WAS NOT REALLY ANYTHING MORE THEY COULD DO TO THE 7.3 TO MAKE IT HAVE BETTER EMISSIONS CONTROL WHEN THEY INTRODUCED THE 6.0 (POS) IT HAD 100TH THE EMMISIONS THAT THE 7.3 HAD MAINLY BECAUSE OF THE ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLED INJECTORS ON THE 6.0 WERE FAR MORE COMPLEX WITH THE 2 STAGE INJECTORS REMEMBER EMMISIONS ON A DIESEL ARE LARGLY CONTROLED BY TIMMING OF THE INJECTOR PUMP AND THE NOP OF THE INJECTORS, THAT AND THE COMPUTER SYSTEMS. THE 6.0 COMPUTER SYSTEMS WERE AN ENGINEERING MARVEL IF YOU ASK ME.
